Abby Phillips

AMFT

My name is Abby, and I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist. I have experience working with children, adolescents, individuals, and families as they navigate meaningful life transitions, and the complexities that come with them. Starting again, moving on, or the beginning of questioning expectations are often the reasons clients work with me.

I’m especially drawn to working with those who feel uncertain about therapy, come from a cultural context in which therapy is not common, or who may not have found it helpful in the past. Together, we move at a pace that feels right for you, making room for your voice, background, and preferences in the process.

My work is informed by Narrative Therapy, which means I’m interested in the stories that have shaped your life, as well as the ones that may have been overlooked. To do this, I aim to create a space where people can speak openly about their real experiences without fear of judgment. This also means that I’m keenly aware of the stressors of modern life. It’s easy to feel anxious after checking your phone, reading the news, or wondering how the future might differ from today. Through our conversations, we work to understand these stressors and the influences around you—including culture, relationships, and life circumstances—to uncover the values, strengths, and skills that you already possess.

With younger clients, I incorporate play as a way of expressing and exploring their experiences in ways that feel natural and accessible to them. I create a warm environment to better understand their challenges, which can include anxiety regarding school performance, self-esteem, and relationship building in the age of social media.

Above all, I approach therapy as a collaborative process—one where we can begin to make space for stories that feel more aligned with who you are and who you want to become.
