If you struggle with depression, anxiety, frustrating relationships, serious losses, complications of aging, or alcohol abuse and addiction, I am a seasoned therapist who can help you untangle these blockages in your life. We will work together to make room for building new skills and renewed purpose as you move forward. Sometimes changes come quickly, but sometimes we need time to explore and address the deeper issues that are troubling you. I won’t insult you by promising quick easy solutions to complex problems nor will I bog you down with unnecessary therapy for its own sake.
In my work, what matters most is building a hard-working, honest and trusting relationship between us. I’ve found that our therapeutic alliance is not only a crucial component of long term healing, it also frequently cited as what was most valuable to my clients in our work together. While I consider myself a “general practitioner” ( i.e. able to work with a wide variety of issues), I do have extensive experience with people of all ages who are dealing with addictions, depression and anxiety, healing from childhood trauma as well as the emotional and relational challenges of aging. I enjoy working with both individuals and couples.
My formal training as well as mentorships with important teachers have come from three sources over the past 30 years: 1. Clinical and Transpersonal Psychology (PhD) at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology, 2. Contemporary Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis at the Psychoanalytic Institute of Northern California, and 3. On-going training and study of psycho-spiritual disciplines such as Buddhist meditation and Christian contemplative practices. My on-going training as therapist and periodic spiritual renewal is a high priority and I continue with daily meditation as well as periodic seminars and retreats as a vital element of my work life.
I am happy to discuss my background further when we meet.
